Designs for Dignity
In 2000, Susan Fredman founded Designs for Dignity (D4D), a non-profit organization that transforms the existing spaces of nonprofits through pro bono design services and in-kind donations, allowing them to provide comfortable, supportive, and healing physical environments for those they serve.
Interior designers, architects and other design/build industry professionals donate their time, and manufacturers, vendors, craftsman, clients and showrooms provide furnishings and materials that are re-used in the spaces.
D4D has transformed the spaces of more than 100 nonprofits and has impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands served by them. Service grants have been awarded to a wide range of non-profit organizations that serve diverse populations, and the organization is proud to provide an avenue for diverting excess materials away from landfills and into the hands of those who can truly benefit from them.
D4D has chapters in Chicago, New York City and coming soon, San Francisco.
