DESIGNS FOR DIGNITY

Designs for Dignity (D4D) is a non-profit design organization that believes the built environment can have a tremendous impact on the experience of those in need. The mission of Designs for Dignity is to engage the design community and all of its resources to provide pro bono interior design services creating environments that reflect dignity, respect and comfort for those who can least afford it. Recipients of our service grants are non-profit organizations that directly serve marginalized and at-risk populations, including those who experience poverty, violence, addiction and discrimination. Projects range in scope and include childcare facilities, assisted living centers, shelters for survivors of domestic abuse, supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals and much more. For both the people who work in these organizations and those who utilize the services, environments that enhance work efforts and provide a feeling of comfort can be transformative.

D4D works with a network of Michigan and Chicago interior designers, manufacturers and suppliers and seeks to divert excesses in the design industry from going to the landfill by using these items instead at project sites. The organization serves as a recycling program for the design industry by using excess furniture, paint, flooring and accessories in its projects. Volunteer designers donate their time and expertise to create spaces that reflect the dignity of those seeking services at the non-profit organizations served by D4D.
